There are two shops in Seattle, both an oasis of easy hip style; each with it’s own unique character. The downtown ian opened in 2002 and is located in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood, near Pike Place Market. The newest ian opened in early 2007 in Fremont, a more casual Seattle neighborhood, known for its funky shopping and annual Solstice Parade.
Cerise and Scott met in the clubs of San Francisco and have been friends, roommates and now add business partners to their relationship. Both grew up in California and have long been interested in fashion or being fashionable. Scott coveting a Members Only jacket insisted his parents buy him one. Cerise, scoured the vintage shops near the commune where she grew up. The pair once dressed in coordinating gingham for a night out.
Inspired by the many Seattle customers at Rolo, the San Francisco shop where both worked, they packed their bags and headed north to Seattle. After months searching for a space and living in an apartment that served as their stockroom they opened ian downtown and have never looked back.
